He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam Era from 1961-63. Following his service to his country, John was employed by Cleveland Cliffs at the Tilden Mine prior to working for Marquette County as a heavy equipment operator, retiring in 1998 with 32 years of service with the County.

Mr. Zanetti was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Gwinn and the National Rifle Association. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at the family hunting camp in Arnold. He also enjoyed working on cars.

Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years, Sandra (Peterson) Zanetti; three daughters: Natalie (Robert) Dhamers of Marquette, Suzanne (Joseph) Macario of Princeton and Gina (Paul) Wilson of Skandia; grandchildren: Andrew (Elissa Beacco) and Bradley Macario, Kayla Dhamers and Neo Wilson; brother, Dennis (Barbara) Zanetti of Texas; brother-in-law, John (Susan) Erickson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Auntie Sandra, Nat & Bob, Joe & Suzy, Gina & Paul, Andrew, Bradley, Kayla and Neo - We love that picture of Uncle Johnny on this tribute! His smile sure sums it up as he is in his element. That is how he will be remembered and was loved. You all took such great care of him in his final years and he was lucky to have a family that loved his so much and well as you were all lucky to have him in yours. May those memories provide you comfort of a husband, dad and grandpa who is now in heaven with that same terrific smile and welcomed in with love for sure from Jackie and Cheryl! Jeff will be coming to the funeral on Thursday, but me and the boys will be staying home, so wanted you all to know we are thinking and praying for you at this difficult time.
