Jackie William Korpi, 79, of W. Knudsen Rd., Forsyth Township, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, February 26, 2017 at his home with his loving wife at his side.
Jack was born July 24, 1937 in Negaunee to John and Olga (Helander) Korpi, graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1955, and was a lifelong area resident.
Jack was employed for more than 50 years as a union carpenter with Carpenters Local 1510. He truly loved his hammer and saw. He and his wife built their home and they helped with remodeling all of their children’s homes; Mom was the demolition crew and Dad put it back together.
More than anything, Jack loved his family. He loved dancing with his wife, hunting with his sons, and spending time with his daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are his loving wife of 59 years, Karen ‘Kasey’ (Kaeseman) Korpi; two sons: Jack (Darlene) and David ‘Barney’ (Kay) Korpi, both of Negaunee; daughter, Kari (Doug) Young of Negaunee; sister, Gertrude Neste of Negaunee; sisters-in-law, Helen Korpi of Marquette and Sal Kivisto of Negaunee; five grandchildren: Blair (Joe) Jordan, Emily (Brad) Hopper, Kasey (Joella) Korpi, Jason (Katie Currie) Young and Nicole (Ian Hutchens) Young; three great-grandchildren: Emma Jordan, Ella Korpi and Quinn Hutchens; special nieces, Laurie and Bonnie Makinen, along with several other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Eugene; and two other brothers, Eugene and Leslie Korpi.
Honoring Jack’s wishes, a private family celebration will be held.
