Jeanette Hilda Thomas, 89, formerly of Snowberry Heights Apartments, Marquette and longtime Negaunee resident passed away peacefully Thursday morning, January 12, 2017 at the Norlite Nursing Center.
Jeanette was born November 9, 1927 in Negaunee to Harold and Jennie (Anderson) Salmer, graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1945 and was a lifelong area resident. She worked for many years as an accountant for the City of Marquette Board of Light & Power.
Mrs. Thomas was a devout member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Negaunee. In her spare time she enjoyed being at camp, cooking, picking blueberries, people watching, and loved watching sunsets at Sunset Point on Presque Isle. She was especially proud to have helped raise her beloved grandson, Tobias.
Surviving are her grandson, Tobias (Amy) Thomas of Big Bay; great-grandson, Waylon Thomas; nieces, Janet (Mike) Skytta and Karen (Bill) Pepin; nephews, Dennis (Cheryl) and Ronald (Vickie Maki) Salmer; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, James G. Thomas on July 20, 2006; her son, Graydon Thomas on August 9, 2017; an infant son, Stephen; brothers, Clarence (Dorothy) and Harold (Fran) Salmer; and nieces, Sharon (Jim)Skewis and Betty (Don) Elmore.
Memorial services will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, November 3rd, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Negaunee, with Rev. Warren Geier officiating. Interment will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends at luncheon immediately following services in the church fellowship hall.
