Robert John Aho, 83, of Midway Dr., Negaunee Township, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility.
Robert was born December 15, 1932 in Negaunee to Arne and Laila (Hahka) Aho. During his childhood they relocated to Washington and he graduated from Kelso High School in 1950. After graduation, Robert enlisted in the United States Navy and served for four years aboard the U.S.S. Higbee. Following his service to his country, he returned to Negaunee and married Eloise Niemi on August 22, 1959.
Mr. Aho was employed as a shovel operator for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company. In his free time he enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing, and woodworking. He was an excellent craftsman and made many furniture pieces for family members. Robert was also an avid bowler and bowled a perfect ‘300’ at age 70.
Surviving are his daughter, Karen (Al) Hoffman of Otsego; his son, David Aho of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; his granddaughter, Maria Hoffman; two brothers: James (Dawn) and John Aho, both of Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Eloise M. Aho on March 18, 2015; two brothers: George and William Aho; and three sisters: Leslie, Shirley and Marilyn.
Honoring Mr. Aho’s wishes, private graveside services will be held at the Negaunee Cemetery at a later date.
