Gertrude E. ‘Betty’ Johnson, age 85, of 9 Horseshoe Lake Circle, Negaunee Township, died peacefully at her home at 11:30 AM on Thursday, May 28, 2009.
Betty was born April 17, 1924 in Negaunee to Albert & Anna (Overfors) Johnson, was a graduate of Negaunee High School, Class of 1941, and was a lifelong area resident. She worked in the food service industry for many years and had owned and operated the Marq Restaurant in Marquette.
Betty was a lifetime member of Calvary Baptist Church, Negaunee and was the church organist for many decades. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining family and friends.
Surviving are her sister-in-law, Shirley Johnson, her sister’s children: Kathleen (Michael) Airaudi, Nancy (Brook) Smith, Linda Harwick, Joseph Sylvester, David Sylvester, her brother’s children: Paulette (Dean) Patron, Barbara (David) Herman, Donna (George) Grawn, Chris Johnson, Sandra (Steven) Etelamaki, numerous great nieces, great nephews, step-children, step-grandchildren, and step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her 1st husband Elvin Velin, her 2nd husband Ralph Johnson, her brother Robert Johnson, and her sister, Marjorie Sylvester.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church, Negaunee with Pastor Michael Airaudi officiating. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call from 10:00 AM until the time of services at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the church.
