Obituary for ELEANOR K. LAHTI (Winter)

Eleanor K. Lahti, 98, of Gwinn, entered eternal life early Friday morning, September 1, 2017 at the Eastwood Nursing Center in the care of her loving family.
Eleanor was born November 30, 1918 in Negaunee to Isaac and Mathilda (Liubakka) Winter, graduated from Gwinn High School, Class of 1937 and was a lifelong area resident.
Eleanor was employed at KI Sawyer AFB from where she retired. She was the oldest member of Grace Lutheran Church, Gwinn, was a life member and very active with the Gwinn VFW Auxiliary, and was also a selfless volunteer at the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette, volunteering until she was 90 years old.
Eleanor loved country music and she enjoyed country music shows, her favorite being in Porterfield, WI. She also enjoyed laying in the sun, picking blueberries and loved camping, especially at Big Eric’s Bridge in Skanee and Perkins Park in Big Bay.
Surviving are her daughter, Maxine (Marvin) Jacobson of Gwinn; granddaughter, Shelly (Frank) Howell of New Bern, NC; great-grandchildren: Danielle Junak, Wyatt and Cole Howell, all of New Bern, NC, Mike (Janea) and Danny (Alexa) Adams of Howell, and Vanessa and Joshua Garcia of Owosso; two great-great-grandchildren: Madi and Evy Adams; a brother-in-law, Russell Kanerva; a sister-in-law, Lee Winter; five step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, John Kanerva; second husband, Peter Lahti; a granddaughter, Tracy (Hytinen) Garcia; son-in-law, Darryl Hytinen; two brothers, Jacob and Leo Winter; and her sister and best friend, Helvi Prusi.
Memorial services will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, September 8th at Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Andrew Plocher officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday, and also at a luncheon in the church hall. Interment will be in the Gwinn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Eleanor’s memory to the Eastwood Nursing Center Activity Fund.
