Dorothy Loraine Maki, 87, longtime Negaunee resident, passed away peacefully in the care of her loving family Saturday morning, March 4, 2017 at UP Health System – Marquette.

Dorothy was born June 4, 1929 in Negaunee to Peter August and Esther Wilhemina (Lidbeck) Anderson, was a lifelong area resident and graduated from Negaunee High School. In her younger years, she was employed as a clerk at the Red Owl Grocery Store. Dorothy married her one true love, Frank Leonard Maki, and together they raised four children.

Mrs. Maki was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Ishpeming and the Order of the Eastern Star. In her free time, Dorothy enjoyed dancing, listening to music, reading, and most of all, spending time and caring for her family, especially her grandchildren.

Surviving are her daughter, Kimberly (Jeffrey Timson) Maki of Orlando, FL; two sons: Frank (Chris) Maki, Jr. of Republic and Gary (Lisa) Maki of Las Vegas, NV; 11 grandchildren: Anthony, Amy, Chad, Benjamin, Stacey, Sabrina, Tyler, Jeremiah, Tim, Jeffrey and Christopher; six great-grandchildren: Alex, Kiana, Vincent, Braylen, Broden and Ariel; two sisters: Patricia (Charles) Marcotte of Ishpeming and Klista (Randy) Gale of Wyandotte, MI; her brother, Clyde (Bernice) Anderson of Negaunee Township; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Frank in 1974; son, Peter Maki; granddaughter, Sarah; infant granddaughter, Stephanie; grandson Vincent; and five brothers: William ‘Bucky,’ Robert, Donald, Lyle and an infant brother, James.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, March 7th at Bethel Lutheran Church with Rev. Lauri O. Maki officiating. Burial will take place in Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 am until the time of services at 12:00 noon at the church on Tuesday, and also at a luncheon in the church hall immediately following services. Pallbearers will be Dorothy’s sons, Gary and Frank, grandsons, Anthony, Chad, Benjamin and Tyler Maki, and her nephew, Clyde Eugene Anderson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Dorothy’s memory to Bethel Lutheran Church, 333 E. Ridge St., Ishpeming, MI 49849.
