Tony Louis Paris, 90, of N. Pine St., Gwinn, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, August 28, 2016 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans.
Tony was born November 15, 1925 in Princeton to Frank and Antoinette (Minelli) Paris, and graduated from Gwinn High School, Class of 1943. Following graduation he worked at the Princeton Mine until being drafted into the United States Navy where he served in the Pacific Theatre of Operations during World War II. Following his service to his country he worked at the Mather Mine, owned and operated Paris Grocery in Princeton, worked in the Tracy Mine, and spent his last 24 yrs. of employment as a postal clerk at the K.I. Sawyer and Gwinn Post Offices.
Mr. Paris was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and was a lifetime member of the Gwinn V.F.W. In his free time he enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, being at camp in Ralph and bowling. Following retirement, in 1985, he and his wife enjoyed camping for a month each year in Grand Marais. He was also an avid Green Bay Packers and Chicago Cubs fan.
Surviving are his loving wife, Kathryn (Farquar) Paris; 3 sons: Randy (Cheryl), Ronny and Frank Paris, all of Gwinn; granddaughter, Karen (Lawrence) Bruce and their two children, Carmen and Nathan, all of Coldwater, MI; daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Paris-Johns, of Gwinn; brother-in-law, Roland (Susan) Farquar of Columbus, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Barry Paris in 2008; 2 brothers, Joe and Paul Paris; and 3 sisters: Mary Ghiardi, Elizabeth Borchert and Esther Warren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 1st at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Rev. Allen Mott officiating. Interment will be in the Gwinn Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends in the Baraga Room at St. Anthony for one hour prior to Mass and also at a luncheon in the church fellowship hall immediately following services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Tony’s memory to the Upper Peninsula Honor Flight, 7480 J Road, Gladstone, MI 49837.
