Leslie E. Koski, 80, of Pine Run, Negaunee Township, died peacefully at home in the loving care of his family and Lake Superior Hospice on Saturday afternoon, July 9th, 2016.
Leslie was born April 19, 1936 in Escanaba to Eino Edward and Ina Hilja (Seppanen) Koski and was raised in Rock where he graduated from High School in 1954. He served in the United States Army as a Dental Assistant in Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri from March, 1959 until he was honorably discharged in February, 1961. Following his service to his country, Leslie was employed as an electrician for Cleveland Cliffs and UPPCO.
Leslie was united in marriage to Delphine (Pellinen-Johnson) in 1983, and they resided in Negaunee Township. They were together for 23 years before her passing in 2006. Leslie and Delphine enjoyed spending time at the camp on the Dead River Basin, traveling to Arizona, Florida and Canada, and reunions with friends and classmates. Leslie was an avid Tigers and Packers fan, and was always proud of his Finnish heritage, often speaking in Finn.
Surviving are his step-children: Neal (Cindy) Johnson of Gurnee, IL and Tracie Swanson of Ishpeming; three grandchildren: Erica and Brett Johnson, and Kayla Yadon; his brother, Ronald (Gina) Koski of Rock; sister-in-law, Laverne Koski of Rock; his special friend and sister-in-law, Mabel Pellinen of Ishpeming; a special nephew, Steven (Diane) Pellinen of Ishpeming; numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Delphine on March 25, 2006; and his brother Leo Koski in 2005.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, July 13th at the Koskey Funeral Home in Negaunee with Rev. David Celesky, Pastor of Lake Superior Christian Church, officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends from 3 pm until the time of services at 5 pm at the funeral home on Wednesday, and also at a dinner reception immediately following services at the Negaunee Senior Center. The Vietnam Veterans of America will conduct military honors. Pallbearers will be Neal Johnson, Ronald Koski, Sr. and Ronald Koski, Jr., Steven and Dennis Pellinen, and Fran Sevegney. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery.
