EVELYN AILEEN SWANSON (Agnoli)
Evelyn A. Swanson
Negaunee
Evelyn A. Swanson, 86, of 205 W. Water St., Negaunee, entered eternal life Monday evening, May 25, 2015 surrounded by her loving family at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility.
Evelyn was born August 15, 1928 in Negaunee to Bert and Anna (Larson) Agnoli, was a graduate of Negaunee High School, Class of 1946, and was a lifelong Negaunee resident. She married Robert ‘Rip’ Swanson on December 27, 1947 at Bethany Lutheran Church and together they lovingly raised three daughters.
Evelyn was employed at the Style Shop where she shared her wonderful sense of fashion. In her younger years she was employed at the Huron Mountain Club and the H.W. Gossard Co.
Mrs. Swanson was a devout member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Negaunee where she taught Sunday school for many years and was very active with Bible study groups and volunteering her time. Some of Evelyn’s fondest memories were spent as a parent chaperone of the Ishpeming Blue Notes which her eldest daughter was a member. She spent winters in St. Pete Beach, FL and was active volunteering at the Salvation Army while there. Beyond her volunteer work, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, and was a wonderful caregiver to anyone in need.
In her free time she enjoyed doing yardwork, travelling, and playing cards, especially her bridge clubs. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time nurturing her family and celebrating her grandchildren’s achievements.
Surviving are 3 daughters: Sandra (Marvin) Murray of Santa Barbara, CA, Barbara (Alan) Thorne of Lompoc, CA and Joanne (Terry) Hill of Negaunee; 6 grandchildren: Tracy and Christopher (Kari) Richards, Heather (Dylan) Thomas, and Tara (Cory) Eman, Erin and Billy (Ashley) Hill; 5 great-grandchildren: Ben and Jack Richards, Madelyn Thomas, Shelby Oleksy and Jailen Hill; a dear niece, Jonica (Charlie) McCarthy; lifelong friend, Pat Lowney; her wonderful caregiver, Terri Sands; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, adored husband Robert on Sept. 28, 1983; brother, Bertil Agnoli; sister, Margaret Miller, and her father.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, June 1st at Bethany Lutheran Church with Rev. Tamra Harder officiating. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00 am until the time of services at 1:00 pm at the church on Monday, and also at a luncheon in the church hall following the service. Pallbearers will be Evelyn’s grandsons and sons-in-law. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Barr, Steven Agnoli, Ryan Healey and Brad Richards. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Bethany Lutheran Church Memorial Fund in Mrs. Swanson’s memory.
The family extends a special thank you to all of the staff at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility for their loving and compassionate care.
Evelyn left this world as she lived it; conscious of God, fearless of death, and at peace surrounded by loving family and friends.
