Cynthia L. ‘Cindy’ Johnson, 57, of Rolling Mill Rd., Negaunee, passed away Thursday evening, May 21, 2015 with her loving family by her side and under the care of UP Home Health and Hospice at UP Health System Marquette.
Cindy was born June 5, 1957 in Ishpeming to Emil A. and Betty Jean (Hill) Jarvi, graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1975 and was a lifelong Negaunee resident. Following graduation she attended Northern Michigan University. Cindy married Philip ‘AJ’ Johnson on August 14, 1976 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Negaunee, and together they raised 3 daughters. Mrs. Johnson was employed for over 27 years in the banking industry, most recently in the bookkeeping department at Range Bank for the past 13 years. She had previously worked for Miners Bank and Wells Fargo.
Cindy was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Negaunee and the local Bunco Club. In her free time she enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles and travelling. She most enjoyed time spent with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren.
Surviving are her loving husband of nearly 39 years, A.J. Johnson; 3 daughters: Emily (David) Rushford of Ishpeming, Elizabeth and Jolee Johnson of Negaunee; 2 grandchildren: Jake and Maddie Rushford; a sister, Kathleen (Larry) Peterson of Negaunee; 4 brothers: David (Ann) Jarvi of Ishpeming, Michael (Marsha) Jarvi of Negaunee; James (Sheila) Jarvi of Suomi Location and Jeffrey (Lora) Jarvi of Plymouth; her mother-in-law, Pauline Johnson of Negaunee; 4 brothers-in-law: David (Julie) and Kenneth Johnson, Paul Smith and James Skewis; 2 aunts: Dorothy and Marilyn Jarvi; a special niece, Jessica Skewis; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 sisters: Lynette Smith and Nancy Skewis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 27th at St. Paul Catholic Church with Monsignor Peter Oberto officiating. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. Cindy’s brothers and James and Andrew Skewis will serve as pallbearers. The family will greet relatives and friends from 6-8pm on Tuesday at the Koskey Funeral Home and also for one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Wednesday. A parish prayer service will be held at 7:45 pm at the funeral home Tuesday.
