Danny Lee Koski, 71, of Constellation St., Gwinn and longtime Negaunee Township resident, passed away peacefully early Friday morning, May 15, 2015 at home in the care of his loving family and U.P. Home Health and Hospice.
Danny was born January 30, 1944 in Ishpeming to Reino Felix and Helmi Emelia (Lahti) Koski and graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1962. Following high school he graduated from the Milwaukee Vocational School in 1963. He married Bonny L. St. Onge on September 19, 1970.
Danny was a member of the Operating Engineers Local #324, and was employed as a heavy equipment operating engineer for A. Lindberg and Sons for 33 years. He retired from the union on January 31, 2000. In his younger years he worked with his father in the family topsoil business.
Mr. Koski was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Negaunee, the Hiawatha Land Snowmobile Club and Negaunee Elks Lodge #1116. He was an avid NASCAR and basketball fan, always supporting the Negaunee Miners and NMU Wildcats. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, and especially enjoyed watching them play basketball. Danny was an outdoorsman and spent a lot of time at Camp Kotisva on Kate’s Grade. Following his retirement, he enjoyed gardening and tinkering in the barn.
Surviving are his loving wife of 45 years, Bonny (St. Onge) Koski; 2 sons: Byron (Wendy) Koski of Ishpeming and Eric (Shari) Koski of Negaunee Township; grandchildren: Kayla and Abbagail Koski and Ethan and Landin Koski; a sister, Marlene Parkkonen of Marquette; mother-in-law, Lorraine St. Onge of Ishpeming; nephews: Douglas (Elizabeth) Parkkonen, John (Cheryl), Donald (Carol), Ricky (Sherry) and Robert (Kelly) LaFountain; nieces, Julie Jamieson and Lori (Douglas) Sicotte; brother-in-law, John ‘Jack’ LaFountain; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Donald St. Onge; and brother-in-law, Arne Parkkonen.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, May 21st at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Negaunee with Rev. Steven Solberg officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends from 1 pm until the time of services at 3 pm at the church on Thursday, and also at a luncheon in the church hall immediately following the service. Pallbearers will be Eugene and Steven Lahti, Al Sivula, Bill Mattson, John LaFountain and Brian Koski. Interment will take place in Northland Chapel Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Danny’s memory to Bay Cliff Health Camp, Immanuel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, or U.P. Home Health and Hospice.
