Helen Marie Miljour, 89, formerly of Co. Rd. ML, Suomi Location, passed away peacefully on Mother’s Day morning, May 10, 2015 at the Eastwood Nursing Center.
Helen was born March 4, 1926 in Marquette to John and Impi (Pyykkonen) Luhta and was a graduate of Negaunee High School, Class of 1944. She married Francis C. Miljour on June 3, 1946 and together they raised 4 children. Upon their kids graduating high school, Helen worked at the Pineview School in Palmer where she was known to all the students as ‘Grandma,’ and was also employed at the First National Bank of Negaunee, Palmer branch.
Mrs. Miljour was a member of Community Lutheran Church, Suomi Location. She and her husband were avid square dancers for over 20 years, enjoyed traveling and spending time at the family camp on Pike Lake. Helen loved her wine nights with her kids, and spending time with her beloved grandchildren.
Surviving are her son, Gerald (Darlene) Miljour of Suomi Location; 3 daughters: Kerry (Thomas) Kemp of Menasha, WI, Susan (Dean) Larson and Catherine (Craig) Pietila, both of Suomi Location; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers: Raymond (Harriet) Luhta of Pennsylvania and John Luhta of Alpena; 2 sisters: Ruth Paulin of Chicago and Irma (George) Cole of California; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Francis on August 3, 2007; and 3 sisters: Viola Brunelli, Norma Korpi and Kerry Troutwine.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, May 14th at the Community Lutheran Church in Suomi with Rev. Kenneth Lahners, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ishpeming, officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10 am until the time of services at 12 Noon at the church on Thursday, and also at a luncheon following the services at the Richmond Township Fire Hall in Palmer. Burial will be in Bakkala Cemetery. Helen’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
