Jeanette Hilda Marie (Tuominen) Nicholas, 56, of Riverview Drive, Ishpeming, passed away peacefully at home early Sunday morning, March 22, 2015 surrounded by her loving family following a lengthy illness.
Jeanette was born September 19, 1958 in Duluth, MN to Martin and Ruth (Mattson) Tuominen and graduated from Floodwood High School in Minnesota, Class of 1977. She married Robert Nicholas on August 27, 1977 in Negaunee. Jeanette was employed by Ishpeming Public Schools, first as a teacher’s aide and then as a custodian, retiring due to health reasons.
Mrs. Nicholas was a member of the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church, Negaunee Township. She was a loving wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. To her immediate family, she was not only a wonderful wife and mother, but truly a best friend.
Surviving are her husband of 37 years, Robert J. Nicholas of Ishpeming; father, Martin (Darlene) Tuominen; 2 sons: Trever (Sara Hanson) Nicholas of Minneapolis and Shawn (Lisa) Nicholas of Duluth; 2 daughters: Nicole (Mark) Wert of Beaver Grove and Ashley Nicholas of Calumet, MN; 9 grandchildren: Lydia, Avery, Kira, Bobby, Preston, Landon, Madison, Mackenzie and Delilah; brothers: Jeweleon (Nancy) Tuominen of Duluth and Greg Tuominen of Ishpeming; sisters: Sherilee (Dan) Prusi of Cedar Valley, MN, Connie Tuominen of Grand Rapids, MN and Debra (Jeff) Rivord of Taylor Falls, MN; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of brothers and sisters in faith. She was preceded in death by her mother and a brother, Keith Kangas.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, March 25th at the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church with Bill Tuominen officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 am until the time of services at 12:00 noon at the church on Wednesday, and also at a luncheon immediately following the service. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Shawn Nicholas, Mark Wert, Jack Nicholas, Gary Nicholas, Jeweleon Tuominen and Greg Tuominen. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Jeanette’s memory to the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church, 1044 Co. Rd. 492, Negaunee, MI 49866.
