Terry J. Talo
Negaunee
Terry J. Talo, 72, of Bay De Noc St., Negaunee, passed away peacefully at home early Friday morning, December 19, 2014 surrounded by his loving family and friends, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Terry was born March 24, 1942 in Negaunee, the third of four children to Eino and Tyne (Laitinen) Talo. He was a 1960 graduate of Negaunee High School where he played and loved sports, and was elected Municipal Judge of his senior class in their student body election.
Terry worked several jobs throughout his life including Palm Bottle Gas from 1960-’65, served for the Negaunee Police Department, and then as Deputy Sheriff for the Sheriff’s Department until 1973, while serving as Constable for Negaunee Township from 1968 to 1970. Most will remember Terry as their school bus driver. He drove bus for the Negaunee Public Schools for 37yrs while owning and operating his business, Terry’s Service, on Silver St. in Negaunee. After selling his shop of 25yrs and retiring from the schools, Terry continued driving bus for tour bus companies including Debbie Tours, Superior, and Checker Cab. In all, Terry totaled over 50yrs of driving. He also served on the Negaunee City Council and served as Mayor of Negaunee.
Terry will be remembered by his great many friends as a hardworking, funny man who loved his family and friends and would do anything he could to help them. He loved sports and was a die-hard Detroit Lion fan. Terry loved animals, the outdoors, and being on the various boats he owned. He especially loved being at camp with his beloved dog Duke. He loved working with his hands and seemed to be able to fix anything. Many will remember Terry for his infectious ability to tell a good story or joke.
Terry is survived by his loving wife of 31yrs, Kathy M. (Jurvelin) Talo; son, Ivan Talo of Negaunee; step-sons, Marcus Luoma of Negaunee and Mike Luoma of Marquette; special ‘adopted’ son and daughter, Mike Trewhella and ‘Kelly-O’; sisters, Beverly (David) Stomquist of Negaunee and Mildred (Ted) Balzarini of Marquette; brother, Maurice (Esther) Talo of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 5:00pm until the time of services at 7:00pm at the church on Tuesday, and also at a dinner in the church hall immediately following the service.
