Robert James Marcotte, 86, of Croix St., Negaunee, passed away Saturday afternoon, November 1, 2014 at UP Health System Marquette. He had been a resident at the Eastwood Nursing Center for 6 years.
Bob was born August 22, 1928 in Negaunee to Alex and Rose (Brisson) Marcotte and graduated from Negaunee St. Paul High School, Class of 1948. He married Shirley Jean (Jandron) on October 17, 1953. Bob was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War, having served from 1950-52 with Company H, 223rd Infantry Regiment, 40th Division as a forward observer. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant first class in January, 1957. Following his service to his country, Bob was employed by Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company at multiple properties, retiring in 1989 from the Empire Mine as a warehouseman with 34 years of service.
Mr. Marcotte was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Negaunee and was a life member of VA Romo Post #3165, Negaunee VFW.
Known as ‘Pa’ to his kids, Bob enjoyed watching the Negaunee Miners play football and basketball, listening to music, dancing with his wife, playing cards, working puzzles and going for rides in the car. His lawn was envied by many! He will be remembered for many things, but especially for his gentle teasing, sense of mischief and sly smile.
Surviving are his loving wife of 61 years, Shirley Jean (Jandron); daughter, Barbara Marcotte of Negaunee; son, Terry (Lily) Marcotte of Baraga and their children: Elexsonna Verbanac and Xack and Xavier Tarvainen; sister, Betty (Wes) Wentela of Ishpeming; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Donald J. Marcotte on September 23, 2014; sisters, Louise Marcotte and Florence (Jim) Baldini; brothers: Leo (Mildred), Thomas (Helen), and Joe (Carol) Marcotte; father- and mother-in-law, George (Nell) Jandron; sisters-in-law: Alice (Tom) Quayle, Pat (Bob) LaMere and Peggy (Bill) Treloar; and brothers-in-law: George (Lydia) Jandron, and Lawrence and Leroy Jandron.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 5th at St. Paul Catholic Church, Negaunee with Monsignor Peter Oberto officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 am until the time of services at 11:00 at the church on Wednesday, and also at a luncheon immediately following the Mass in the St. Paul School Gymnasium. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Catherine Kroll and to the staff at the Eastwood Nursing Center who took such good care of Bob over the years.
