Robert J. ‘Butch’ Hutchens
Gwinn
Robert J. ‘Butch’ Hutchens, 68, of Ash St., Gwinn, passed away unexpectedly at home after suffering an apparent heart attack on Friday, July 11, 2014.
Butch was born July 8, 1946 in Ishpeming to Donald ‘Bob’ and Lorraine (Larsh) Hutchens, graduated from Gwinn High School, Class of 1964, and was a lifelong Gwinn resident. After graduation, he served in the United States Army from 1965-67. Following his service to his country, Butch was employed by Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company at the Empire Mine as a heavy equipment operator, retiring in 2002 with 35 years of service.
Mr. Hutchens was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Gwinn. His hobbies included woodworking, home improvement projects and watching Nascar and the Green Bay Packers. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother and grandfather. Butch will be remembered by all of us as being the most kind, wise and gentle man anyone could ever know, and he will be so dearly missed.
Surviving are his loving wife, Jane (Beauparlant) Hutchens; 2 sons: James (Lauri) Hutchens of Little Lake and John Hutchens of Gwinn; daughter, Crystal (Scot) Cramer of Little Lake; 3 grandchildren: Alexis Hutchens and Abigail and Emma Cramer; 2 sisters: Diane (Dave) Coleman of Louisville, KY and Priscilla (Dennis) Weber of Gladstone; 3 brothers: Calvin (Kami) Hutchens and Brian (Maureen) Hutchens, both of Gwinn, and Darwin Hutchens of Ishpeming; brother-in-law, John Beauparlant; 2 sisters-in-law: Mary (John) Bestul and Kathy (John) Shaw, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lila Tindell.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 15th at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Rev. Allen Mott officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends from 5-7 pm on Monday evening, July 14th in the Baraga Room at St. Anthony Catholic Church and also in the church hall following the Mass on Tuesday. Burial will be in the Gwinn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Vincent DePaul Society in Butch’s memory.
