Obituary for SHIRLEY MARIE NEGRINELLI

Shirley Marie Negrinelli, 97, longtime Gwinn resident, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, May 20, 2023 at Aurora Baycare Medical Center in Green Bay.

Shirley was born September 16, 1925 to Leo and Bertha (St. Onge) McDonald, and graduated from Gwinn High School, Class of 1942. Following graduation, she moved to Detroit to live with her aunt and uncle, Marian and Nick St. Onge. She attended the Detroit Business School and was hired by the Pennsylvania Railroad. On April 21, 1945, she married Louie Negrinelli at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Gwinn. Louie was discharged from the service in May of 1946, and shortly after they moved back to Gwinn to raise their family.

Surviving are her five children: Richard (Debra) Negrinelli of Au Gres, MI, Betty (Dan) Fleury of Gwinn, Danny (Betty) Negrinelli of Gwinn, Judy (Greg) Voegtline of Watersmeet, MI, and Gary Negrinelli of Fort Myers, FL; her sister, Ann Filizetti of Gwinn; seven grandchildren: Bridget (Scott) Goode, Colleen Smolen, Ryan (Rebecca) Negrinelli, Louie (Jessica) Fleury, Jamie (Joel Schoneman) Fleury, Joe Negrinelli, and Connor Voegtline; ten great-grandchildren: Riley, Connor, Brennan, McKenna, Daniel, Taylor, Tara, Ryan, Addison, and Emma; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louie in 1988; two brothers, Paul (Grace) and Kendall McDonald; brother-in-law, Bruno Filizetti; and numerous loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Shirley’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at UP Health System Marquette and Aurora Baycare Medical Center in Green Bay for all their loving care and support.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 PM on Monday, June 26th at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Gwinn, with Rev. Sebastian Oppong and Rev. Allen Mott concelebrants. Interment will be in the Gwinn Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 AM until the start of Mass at 12:00 PM at the church on Monday, and also at a luncheon immediately following services in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Shirley’s memory to the Forsyth Senior Citizens Center.
