Obituary for JOHN S. "Jack" THOMAS
John Steven ‘Jack’ Thomas, 79, of Negaunee, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, May 2, 2023 at Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee.
Jack was born August 12, 1943 in Ishpeming to Clarence and Janetta (Medlyn) Thomas, and graduated from Negaunee High School. He worked as an electrician locally in the mines, as well the mines in Mesa, AZ, where he resided for many years.
Jack served many terms on the Negaunee Public Schools Board of Education, and was also a longtime member of the Negaunee All-Sports Booster Club. He was also a volunteer fireman for the Negaunee Fire Department where he is an honorary life member. Jack enjoyed playing basketball, and participated several years in the Negaunee City League.
Surviving are his son, John ‘JT’ (Wendi) Thomas; his step-daughters, Karin and Kirsten Lyke; a step-son, Steve Lyke; grandchildren, Haley and Tyler (Nicole Tierney) Thomas; step-grandchildren: Jonah, Stephanie and Magena; three brothers: James (Marilyn) Thomas, Robert (Nita) Thomas and Richard (Barbie) Thomas; two sisters, Jane Nordeen and Sally (Archie) Mitchell; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ellen (Kreitmeyer) Thomas; and his daughter, Renee Thomas.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, May 10th at Koskey Funeral Home, with Rev. Bob Freysinger officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00 AM until the start of services at 1:00 PM at the funeral home on Wednesday.
