Obituary for DONALD RICHARD LOWES

Donald Richard Lowes, 80, of Negaunee Township, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, April 30, 2023 at the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans with his loving family at his side, following a long struggle with Dementia and Parkinson’s Disease.

Don was born April 24, 1943 in Sault Ste. Marie to John and Stella (Anderson) Lowes. He attended school in the Sault until he decided to serve his country, and joined the US Army in 1964. Donald was stationed in Germany until his honorable discharge in 1967. Following his service to his country, he returned home and met his future wife, Rebecca ‘Becky’ Hatch, and they were married in 1969. They moved to Negaunee to work and raise their two sons.

Don worked for FABCO Caterpillar dealership for 32 years, retiring as parts manager. He decided he wasn’t finished with his career, and went to work for A. Lindbergh & Sons as parts manager there for another 13 years.

Don belonged to the American Legion for many years, and was a life member of the Negaunee Elks Lodge. He was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers, Lions and Red Wings. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time at camp, and traveling. Don and Becky took many trips and cruises overseas, and they visited all 50 States. He was known for his dry sense of humor, making people laugh at his many comments without ever cracking a smile.

Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years, Becky; two sons, Brian (Cindy) of Ishpeming and David of Madison, WI; grandchildren, Richard and Brianna, both of Ishpeming; his brothers: Wayne (Nancy), John (Kathleen), and Jim (Sandy); sisters, Dorothy (George) Roxby and Marjorie Whisner; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Fred (Flora), Vern (Melvina), Harvey and Henry; and a sister, Katherine (Clyde) Stufflebeam.

Don’s family wishes to extend a special thank you to the caring and compassionate staffs at UP Home Health & Hospice, DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans, and the VA Clinic in Marquette.

Graveside services and military honors will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, June 16th at Northland Chapel Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Donald's memory to UP Home Health & Hospice.
