Obituary for VIOLA VICTORINE LAMERE
Viola Victorine LaMere, 89, of Suomi Location, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, April 20, 2023 at the Trillium Hospice House in Marquette while in the care of her loving family and UP Home Health & Hospice.
Viola was born September 19, 1933 in Midway Location to David and Lempi (Kujanpaa) LaChance, graduated from Negaunee St. Paul High School, and was a lifelong area resident. She worked in the dietary department at the Palmer Nursing Home, and was dietary director at both Acocks Nursing Facility and Norlite Nursing Center from where she retired.
Mrs. LaMere was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Palmer, and was also a former member of the Sweet Adelines choral group. In her spare time, she enjoyed pitching horseshoes, being at the family camp in Big Bay, loved to sing along while her husband played the guitar, and was an amazing cook and homemaker. Above all, she loved to be with her beloved family.
Surviving are her two sons, Ray (Gloria Sheck) LaMere of Midway Location, and Gregg (Laurie Jacob) LaMere of Illinois; three daughters: Louise (Daryl) Kobie of AuTrain, Gail (Tom) Roose of Palmer, and Rita (Tim) Laiho of Suomi Location; 16 grandchildren: Gordy, Joni, Joe, Denise, Matt, David, Wayne, Nick, Janelle, Jessica, Bryan, Rachel, Casey, Kimberly, Erin, and Kyle; 33 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by parents; her loving husband of 72 years, Gordon LaMere in December, 2022; her daughter, Marsha Valima; a sister, Joy Dobson; and brother, Chuck LaChance.
The LaMere family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Catherine Kroll, and the compassionate and caring staffs of the Trillium Hospice House and UP Home Health & Hospice for the amazing care provided to Gordon and Viola.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, April 25th at Koskey Funeral Home, with Rev. Greg Heikkala officiating. Interment will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 AM until the start of services at 11:30 AM at the funeral home on Tuesday, and also at a luncheon immediately following services at the Richmond Township Fire Hall in Palmer. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Viola’s memory to the Trillium Hospice House, 1144 Northland Dr., Marquette, MI 49855.
