Obituary for LINDA L. LAHTI

Linda L. Lahti, 69, of Negaunee Township, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, February 26, 2023 at UP Health System Marquette.

Linda was born January 1, 1954 in Florala, Alabama to Mr. Bill and Miss Julia ‘Sue’ (Smith) Elliott, and graduated from Desert High School, Edwards Air Force Base, CA, Class of 1971. She continued her education at Antelope Valley Community College where she attended for two years. She met her husband, Steve, who was security police at Edwards, when he detained her at night in a restricted area while she was riding her dirt bike. Following a deployment, Steve relocated to KI Sawyer and Linda soon followed him, and they were married on October 11, 1980. Linda worked locally at various businesses, including Holiday Travel, Ellson’s Bottling, and Auto Glass Specialists from where she retired.

Linda was a member of the Superior ‘A’ Club, the Dead River Campers Association, and played many years in the Iron Range Women’s slow-pitch softball league as well as the women’s Billiards League, both for Ed’s Iron Inn. In her spare time, she enjoyed crafting, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, bird hunting and fishing. She could often be found barefoot in her garden, tending to her flowers and vegetables. Linda had a lifelong love of traveling. Over the course of her lifetime, she visited over 50 countries between North and South America, Europe and Asia.

Surviving are her husband, Steven Lahti; her mother, Miss Sue Elliott of Dothan, AL; two brothers, Bill (Trish) Elliott of Dothan, AL and Don (Kim) Elliott of Gainesville, GA; brothers-in-law, Tom (Rita) Lahti of Lake of the Ozarks, MO and Milton (Jackie) Lahti of Negaunee Township; sisters-in-law, Shirl (Charles) Sundberg of Negaunee Township and Sara (Terry) Garceau of Negaunee; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins between Alabama, Kentucky and locally.

She was preceded in death by her father, Mr. Bill Elliott; and father and mother-in-law, Tauno and Shirley Lahti.

Linda’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful nursing staff on the 4th Floor, ICU, at UP Health System Marquette, for their compassionate care over the last month and half.

Honoring Linda’s wishes, no public services will be held.
