Millicent Lorraine (Ruona) ‘Milly’ Robare, 94, longtime Negaunee resident, passed away peacefully at Eastwood Nursing Center Friday morning, January 13, 2023 after a short illness.

Milly was born February 9, 1928 in Ishpeming to Arthur and Hazel (Rogers) Ruona and attended Ishpeming Schools until the ninth grade when she and her Mother moved to Negaunee following Arthur’s passing. She graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1946. Following graduation, Milly married the love of her life, Donald Robare, and was married to him for 73 years until his death.

Milly worked part-time at Russo Brothers Store for 25 years as a clerk and in the meat department. She loved being with her family and enjoyed cooking and baking for them which she did only a few days before going into the hospital on December 15th this past year. She also loved to travel out west and enjoyed going to camp on the Dead River Basin. Milly had a lot of energy and was frequently called the Energizer Bunny.

Surviving are her daughter, Donnette Robare of Marquette; and three sons: Scott of LA, California, Curt (Lisa) and Tim of Negaunee; grandson, Ryan Robare of Eagle, Idaho; brother, Roger (Connie) Houseman of Leesburg, Georgia; two brothers-in-law: Daryl (Alva) Robare and Werner (Yvonne)Talus; several nieces and nephews; honorary granddaughters, Amy René Boesl and Amy Lynn Broxterman; and her special friends, Pat Lowney and René Himes.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Donald in 2019; parents, Hazel Houseman and Arthur Ruona; in-laws, Audrey and George Robare; sister, Betty Ruona Talus; brothers, Leonard Ruona and Henry W. Houseman; and sister-in-law, Marcella Houseman.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, January 24th at Marquette Hope, Mitchell Methodist Campus in Negaunee. The family will greet relatives and friends for one hour prior to service at the church on Tuesday, and also at a luncheon immediately following services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Milly’s memory to Marquette Hope, Mitchell Methodist Campus in Negaunee or UPAWS.
