Obituary for RONALD J. MCGLONE
Ronald Jospeh McGlone, 85, of Keewaydin St., Negaunee, passed away early Saturday morning, December 24, 2022 at UP Health System Bell.
Ron was born December 5, 1937 in Ishpeming to Leo and Mary (Trombly) McGlone, and graduated from Ishpeming High School, Class of 1956. From a young age Ron loved trains and the railroads, and at age 14 was hanging around the local railyards. This led to his obvious career as locomotive engineer and yardmaster for LS&I Railroad, retiring in 1998 with 42 years of service.
Mr. McGlone attended Bethany Lutheran Church, Negaunee. In his spare time, he enjoyed riding his bike, especially the Iron Ore Heritage Trail, photography, playing cribbage, golfing, fishing, and traveling.
Surviving are his two sons, Shawn (Araceli) and Duane (Vianna) McGlone; 11 grandchildren: Daniel McGlone, Emily (Drew) Langness, Molly, Brennon, Casey, Avery, Shane, Martha, Maia and Miranda McGlone, and Will and Martha Rutherford; five great-grandchildren: Montana, Evelyn, Ella, Emmit and Esme; and his first wife, Dawn Numikoski.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jeanne Sandstrom in 2021; and a son, Shane McGlone in 1987.
Honoring Ron’s wishes, graveside services will be held in the spring at the Negaunee Cemetery.
