Obituary for GORDON HAROLD LAMERE

Gordon Harold LaMere, 93, of Suomi Location, passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, December 22, 2022 at The Trillium House in Marquette while in the care of his loving family and UP Home Health and Hospice.

Gordon was born January 24, 1929 in Negaunee to Fere and Lena (Delarye) LaMere, attended Negaunee Public Schools, and was a lifelong area resident. He worked for Cleveland Cliffs for 41 years at the Bunker Hill, Maas, Mather A, Tilden and Empire Mines, as well as the Diamond Drill Rigs out of the Brownstone.

Mr. LaMere was a member of the Richmond Township Community Club. In his spare time, he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was also a natural handyman and a skilled woodworker.

Surviving are his loving wife of 72 years, Viola (LaChance) LaMere of Suomi Location; his two sons, Ray (Gloria Sheck) LaMere of Midway Location, and Gregg (Laurie Jacob) LaMere of Illinois; three daughters: Louise (Daryl) Kobie of AuTrain, Gail (Tom) Roose of Palmer, and Rita (Tim) Laiho of Suomi Location; 16 grandchildren: Gordy, Joni, Joe, Denise, Matt, David, Wayne, Nick, Janelle, Jessica, Bryan, Rachel, Casey, Kimberly, Erin, and Kyle; 33 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; his brother, Larry (Sandra) LaMere; two sisters, Judy Williams and Donis DeLong; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Marsha Valima; two brothers, Robert and Alvin LaMere; and eight sisters: Lorraine Laituri, Louise Liquia, Carmen Barbiere, Joanne LaMere, Margaret Kippola, Loretta Kecker, Nancy Hill, and Delores LaMere.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, January 3rd at Koskey Funeral Home, with Rev. Greg Heikkala officiating. Interment will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 AM until the start of services at 11:30 AM at the funeral home on Tuesday, and also at a luncheon immediately following services at the Richmond Township Fire Hall in Palmer. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Gordon’s memory to the Trillium Hospice House, 1144 Northland Dr., Marquette, MI 49855.
