Obituary for THOMAS ALAN BECKMAN Sr.

Thomas Alan Beckman, Sr., 71, of Negaunee, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, November 5, 2022 at the Trillium Hospice House, Marquette, under the care of his loving family and UP Home Health and Hospice.

Tom was born March 23, 1951 in Marquette to Glenn and Dorothy (Lahti) Beckman, attended Marquette Public Schools, and was a lifelong area resident. He began his career with Cleveland Cliffs in 1973 at the Mather B, and continued at both the Empire and Tilden Mines, retiring as a dispatcher in 2009 with over 35 years of service with the company. He married Gretchen A. Hauser in 1972, and they recently celebrated their 50th Anniversary.

Tom and Gretchen were longtime members of the Negaunee All Sports Booster Club. He was a longtime supporter and volunteer for Little League Baseball, serving as the President of the Negaunee Little League for countless years and also served on the Negaunee American Legion Baseball board. Tom coached numerous Little League teams both when his children were playing and then for several years after they were done. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, gardening, working on family vehicles, and loved his winters in Lake Worth Beach, FL. Above all, he cherished being with family, especially his beloved grandchildren.

Surviving are his loving wife, Gretchen Beckman of Negaunee; his father, Glenn Beckman of Lake Worth Beach, FL; two sons, Tom (Crystal) Beckman, Jr. of Negaunee and Jon (Sara) Beckman of Ishpeming; his daughter, Michelle (Brian) Anderson of Negaunee; 11 grandchildren: Aaron, Victoria, Jessica, Brandon, Cassidy, Courtney, Nathan, Zachary, Andrew, Danielle and Isabella; three great-grandchildren: Charlotte, Alexis and Aaliyah; two brothers, William (Debra) and Richard (Lenora) Beckman; his sister, Judy (Tom) Rutledge; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Beckman; and brother, David Beckman.

Honoring Tom’s wishes, no public services will be held.
