Obituary for CHARLES "Chuck" LUNDIN

Lt. Col. Charles ‘Chuck’ Lundin, 73, of Ishpeming, and recently residing in McHenry, IL, passed away October 24, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Chuck was a larger than life personality, gregarious and generous, frequently chatting and making friends with everyone he met. Charles celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary with the love of his life, Christine (Tina) Lundin on February 12, prior to her death in March of this year.

Chuck was born on February 1, 1949, in Ishpeming, to Francis A. and Mary M. (Stagliano) Lundin, and graduated from Ishpeming High School. Following high school, Chuck served his country during the Vietnam War as an Army Ranger and received several Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. After returning home, he and Tina married and built a home customized by Chuck where they raised their two daughters. Chuck remained with the National Guard serving with the 107th Engineers in Ishpeming as well as commands in Baraga and Gladstone prior to his retirement into the Army Reserves where he obtained his final rank of Lt. Colonel. Chuck also worked for Cleveland Cliffs at the Tilden, Empire and Republic mines throughout his career until his retirement. He is a lifetime member of the Ishpeming VFW. Everyone at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility knows how devoted Chuck was to Tina, visiting her every day throughout her long-term battle with early onset Alzheimer’s in spite of his own failing health.

Chuck’s grandchildren would like everyone to know that the world will never be the same, he was the one person where excessive charisma was actually cool. He was the man, the myth and the legend. He is irreplaceable and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Charles is survived by his daughters, Kirsten (Brian) Honkala of McHenry, IL whom he resided with this past year and Kellie (Sam) Posey of Sylvania, OH; his grandchildren: Khrystyne (Anthony Howarth) Dewey of Toledo, OH, Heather (Aaron Wright) Dewey of Indianapolis, IN, Avery (Cierra) Dewey of Onsted, MI, Evelyn (Alex Gonzalez) Dewey of Chicago, IL, Lukas (Desiree Downing) Posey and Logan Posey, both of Sylvania, OH; his siblings, Kaye Fredrickson and Robert (Beth) Lundin of Ishpeming, MI; mother-in-law, Marie Lyons; and his beloved nieces and nephews: Cheryl Fredrickson, Ellen & Jennifer Lundin, and David (Laura) Lundin.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine (Tina) Lundin in March, 2022; his parents, Francis & Mary Lundin; a brother, Francis J. Lundin; sister-in-law, Joyce Lundin; brother-in-law, Donald Fredrickson; his nephew, Donald M. Fredrickson; and his father-in-law, John J. Lyons.

A prayer service will be held at 2:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall, with Rev. Larry Van Damme officiating. Condolences may be sent to Chuck’s family at 813 Area St., McHenry, IL 60051.
