Obituary for TERRY D. KATAJAMAKI

Terry Dennis Katajamaki, 75, of Marquette, passed away early Sunday morning, September 18, 2022 at the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans.

Terry was born October 29, 1946 in Ishpeming to Toivo and Ruth (Lindfors) Katajamaki.

Terry was a longtime advocate for barrier free access for the physically challenged. He welded, used a chainsaw, fixed cars, cut the grass, shoveled snow, hunted and fished. All these things he did from a wheelchair.

A 1969 automobile accident left this U.S. Army Veteran permanently paralyzed. For the next 50 years, using ingenuity and Finnish ‘Sisu,’ Terry was able to do almost anything that able-bodied people could.

Surviving are his brother, Jerry Maki of Suomi Location; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Per his wishes, the 1964 graduate of Ontonagon High School will not have a funeral. Terry’s family and friends would like to thank the staff at the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans for their kindness and care provided.
