Michael Ross ‘Spry’ Hiironen, 65, of Richmond Township, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, August 6, 2022 at his home.
Mike was born May 3, 1957 in Marquette to Frederick and Marjorie (Kallioinen) Hiironen and graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1975. He was employed as a truck driver for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company, retiring in 2012 with 35 years of service.
Following retirement, Mike enjoyed reading and watching westerns, especially his favorite, Gunsmoke. He also enjoyed taking saunas and riding his side by side.
Surviving are his wife of 22 years, Dawn (Brugman) Hiironen; his mother, Marjorie Bantle of Kingsford; daughter, Jenna Hiironen and her children Archer and Griffen of Gwinn; son, Alex Hiironen of Wisconsin; step-son, Jeffrey Koski of Marquette; brother, Roger (Tina) of Northland; sister, Katherine Walters of Kingsford; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and his very dear friend and mentor, John Peterson, of Gwinn.
Mike was preceded in death by his father and his brother, Jeffrey Hiironen.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of memorial services at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 10th at Community Lutheran Church, Suomi Location, with Virginia Paulson officiating. A dessert reception will immediately follow in the church hall. Interment will then take place in Bakkala Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Mike’s memory to Community Lutheran Church.
