Obituary for ROSE MARY FLECK (Ombrello)

Rose Mary Fleck, 95, formerly of 216 W. Johnson St, Ishpeming, passed away peacefully July 29, 2022 at Waukesha Memorial Hospital while in the loving care of her family and Waukesha Memorial Hospice.

Rose was born March 21, 1927, in Ishpeming, the ninth of ten children born to the late Joseph and Maria (LaCaria) Ombrello, and was a lifelong Ishpeming resident. Rose married Jesse C. Fleck on December 31, 1946 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Ishpeming. Their New Year’s Eve wedding was a wonderful celebration of family and friends. Each year when the Ombrello family gathered for the holidays, stories were told and memories re-lived of the wonderful family celebration of their wedding. Rose and Jesse raised three children and were married for 62 years.

Mrs. Fleck was a lifelong member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. She loved attending daily Mass and joining other parishioners in saying the rosary. For eight years she led the rosary daily and cherished the certificate of recognition and the rosary from Italy she was given by Monsignor Peter Oberto, who was the pastor at that time. She was also an honorary member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Rose was a very caring and giving person. She helped care for her mother and cared for her husband for many years when he became disabled. She fought all attempts to have her husband put in a nursing home and somehow always found the strength and courage to lovingly care for him each day. When asked how she was able to do it for so long, she always said, “one day at a time, I have no regrets.” While caring for her husband, Rose also found the time to visit her sister in the nursing home several times a week. She always brought a sweet treat to brighten her sister’s day and give her something to look forward too. Rose missed not having her children living close to her and not seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as often as she would have liked, but she loved them dearly and was so proud of all their accomplishments.

In 2014 Rose moved to Mukwonago, WI to live with her daughter Joan. It was hard for Rose to leave Ishpeming where she grew up and raised her family, however the move to Wisconsin gave Rose the opportunity to spend time with her children and extended family who lived nearby. She was blessed to be there for the birth of her great grandsons Thomas and Jayden who filled her life with joy.

Rose is survived by three children: Joan (the late Tom) Nennig of Mukwonago, WI, James (Janet) Fleck of Marshfield, WI, and Mary Jane (Charles Ost) Vanderstow of Sunfield, MI; grandchildren: Jason (Michelle) Nennig, Charity Wanta, Cayla (Tommy) Corley, Nicole (Chad) Raynak, Amanda (Matthew) Williams, and Hilary Hoose; great-grandchildren: Thomas Nennig, Jayden Nennig, Abigail Wanta, James Wanta, Ciaran Corley, Loretta Corley, Logan VanVleck, Nolan VanVleck, Alden VanVleck, Braydon Williams, Wyatt Williams, Vivian Hoose and Delphine Hoose. Rose is also survived by her brother, Anthony Ombrello of Marquette; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Jesse Fleck in 2009; sisters, Mary Tasson, Philomena DeCaire, and infant sister, Rose; her brothers: Frank, Joseph, Victor, Dominic and Salvatore Ombrello; and her dear friend, Jenny Valente.

The family would like to thank the staff at Waukesha Memorial and Hospice for the loving and compassionate care they gave to Rose and her family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 10th at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Ishpeming, with Rev. Ryan Ford officiating. Interment will be in the Ishpeming Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends for one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
