Obituary for ANITA ANN JOHNS (Marta)
Anita Ann (Marta) Johns, 72, of Negaunee, passed away early Friday morning, July 22, 2022 at her home.
Anita was born March 30, 1950 in Negaunee to Anthony ‘Bielo’ and Marcella (Decaire) Marta and graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1968. Following graduation, she worked for TWA in New York City and Chicago. She loved return visits to New York for the rest of her life, taking many different friends and family members along. Anita returned to Negaunee at the end of 1970, and on August 21, 1971 married her high school sweetheart, Clayton Johns.
Anita then continued her career in the travel industry with Holiday Travel Agency in Marquette. A few years after starting she was managing the business, and in 1978 became a partner. In 1990, Anita, along with her business partner and friend, Jan LaValley purchased the entire business. She continued managing, along with Jan, until they sold to Laura Nelson in 2010. Anita continued to work for Holiday, part-time, until she fully retired in 2016, but she never stopped consulting the remainder of her life.
In addition to spending time with her family, Anita loved to travel. She visited many of the world’s countries and never stopped planning and looking forward to the next one.
Anita is survived by her husband of 50 years, Clayton Johns; daughter, Tina (Mike) Cross of Kingsford; son, Clayton (Tammi) Johns, Jr. of Negaunee; five grandchildren and a great grandchild: Michael Johns, Samantha Cross and her daughter, Zoey, Elizabeth Cross, MacKenzie Johns and Cody Johns; her sister, Charlotte (Hank) St. Aubin of Gwinn; a brother, Tony (Susie) Marta of Marquette; mother-in-law, Mary Johns of Negaunee; brothers-in-law, Marvin and Floyd (Heidi) Johns; a sister-in-law, Paula (Greg) Stewart; her uncle, Mark Decaire; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
Honoring Anita’s wishes, no public services will be held.
