Obituary for ALAN ROBERT BESOLA

Alan Robert Besola, 89, of Ishpeming, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, May 26, 2022 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility.

Alan was born May 3, 1933 in Ishpeming to Reino and Selma (Hannula) Besola and graduated from Ishpeming High School, Class of 1951. He served in the United States Navy from 1953 until his honorable discharge in 1957. Following his service to his country, he continued his education at Michigan Technological University, earning his Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. Alan worked as an electrical engineer for CCI, retiring in 1992 with over 35 years of service.

Alan married his first wife, the late Nancy Beauchaine, who passed away in 1983, and together they raised their two children. He married Barbara Sedlock Leiviska of Negaunee in 1993.

Mr. Besola was a former member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Ishpeming, and was also a member of the Ishpeming Elks Lodge. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling, woodworking, wintering in Florida and camping in Grand Marais. Above all, he enjoyed being with his beloved family.

Surviving are his loving wife, Barbara (Sedlock) Besola; children: Gregg (Tracey) Besola, Amy Besola, Kathy (Mark) DeGabriele, Patty (Roger) Leaf, Debbie Leiviska and Mary (Chris) Barrett; his beloved grandchildren: Sydney and Avery Besola, Taylor (Dalton) Fisher, Sarah (Ross) Bergquist, Alexis Lyke, Jason (Lindsay) DeGabriele, Jessie DeGabriele, Evan & Bryce Leaf, and Amelia (Bryan) Fredrickson; great grandchildren, Charli & Liam DeGabriele; his siblings, Jean (Eugene) Bilkey and Lee (Gail) Besola; brothers-in-law, Stanley Uitto and Alan (Diane Schroeder) Sedlock; sister-in-law, Jeanne Pearson; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Nancy (Beauchaine) Besola; a brother, Melvin (Irma) Besola; a sister, Betty Uitto; brother-in-law, Frank Pearson; and his mother and father in law, Joseph and Florence Sedlock.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 1st at Koskey Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Van Damme officiating. Interment will be in the Ishpeming Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 9:00 AM until the start of services at 11:00 AM at the funeral home on Wednesday, and also at a luncheon immediately following services at the St. Paul School Gymnasium. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Alan’s memory to the Ishpeming Elks Lodge.
