Charles ‘Charley’ Giotto, 93, of Negaunee, died early Wednesday morning, May 18, 2022 at Norlite Nursing Center.
Charley was born August 4, 1928 in Negaunee to Pietro ‘Peter’ and Rosina ‘Rose’ (Posmon) Giotto and grew up in North Lake where he attended school. He was employed by Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company, retiring as a lubrication technician in 1980 with 30 years of service.
Mr. Giotto was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Negaunee. He also belonged to the Sons of Italy, Eastwood Nursing Center Auxiliary, and was an active volunteer for RSVP during his retirement. Charley enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid deer hunter. He also enjoyed baseball, playing catcher for the Negaunee Old Timers well into his 80’s.
Surviving are his two sons, Charles ‘Chuck’ (Nora) Giotto of Ishpeming and Anthony ‘Tony’ (Jill) Giotto of Negaunee; three grandchildren: Maria Giotto, Angela (Abby) Giotto and Charles (Taya) Giotto; two great-grandchildren, Evermore and Elenora Giotto; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Priscilla (Juchemich) Giotto in 2012; five sisters: Mary, Julia, Jeanie, Nellie and Ida; and two brothers, Bruno and Joe.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Monday, May 23rd at St. Paul Catholic Church with Rev. Larry Van Damme officiating. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 12:00 noon until the time of Mass at 1:00 pm at the church on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Mr. Giotto’s memory to the Eastwood Nursing Center Activity Fund.
