Obituary for CARL HENRY RAISANEN

Carl Henry Raisanen, 82, of Hurley, WI and former Ontonagon and Mass City resident, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff, WI, following a lengthy illness.

Carl was born March 29, 1940 in Negaunee to Karlo and Hilja (Hyvonen) Raisanen, grew up in Palmer, and graduated from Negaunee High School. He served in the United States Army from 1959 until his honorable discharge in 1963. Following his service to his country, he worked for the Ford Motor Co. in Detroit before returning the Upper Peninsula where he worked numerous jobs before working as a machinist at the paper mill in Ontonagon, from which he retired.

In his spare time, Carl enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing, and enjoyed playing both the mandolin and guitar. He also could be found cross country skiing in the winters and riding his motorcycle in the warm months. Carl was also a gifted woodworker and enjoyed woodcarving. He was extremely devoted to his family, and was proud to have helped care for his mom and brother over the years when they needed it the most.

Surviving are his nieces and nephews: Nancy Young, Judy (Ray) Sandy, Patty (Larry) Bowman, Bob Raisanen, Dale (Susie) Raisanen and Brook Raisanen; and 14 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Theodore ‘Ted’, Frank and Leslie Raisanen; and a great nephew, David Store.

Honoring Carl’s wishes, graveside services will be held at the Negaunee Cemetery.
