Obituary for SHIRLEY HELEN LINNA (Exford)
Shirley Helen Linna, 88, of Chocolay Township, entered eternal life on Thursday afternoon, March 10, 2022 at her daughter’s home while in the loving care of her family and Lake Superior Hospice.
Shirley was born January 13, 1934 in Detroit to George and Fannie (Johnson) Exford and grew up in Negaunee where she graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1952. She met and married the late Carl Linna and moved to Los Angeles, California in 1959 where they raised their children. They returned to the UP in 1969 and opened and operated Linna’s Restaurant in Rock. They moved to the Marquette area in 1977 and Shirley was employed with State of Michigan Social Services from where she retired.
Mrs. Linna was a devout member of Shiloh Baptist Church, Sands Township. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, yard work and spending time with her family and dogs.
Shirley will be dearly missed by her children: Valerie (Harold) Jones of Muskegon, Laura Linna of Marquette, Mark Linna of Negaunee and Daniel Kainulainen of Negaunee Township; ten beloved grandchildren; one great-grandson; daughter-in-law, Juli Wirtanen; and several nieces and nephews. She was prececed in death by her parents; her loving husband of 60 years, Carl Linna; sons, Nick Linna and Edward Kainulainen; and her sister, Sharon Greenough.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 15th at Shiloh Baptist Church with Pastor Mac Woody officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will take place next to her husband in the Negaunee Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Shirley’s memory to Shiloh Baptist Church, 664 Dahlstrom Rd., Gwinn, MI 49841.
