Obituary for JOHN GREGORY DeGABRIELE

John Gregory ‘Greg’ DeGabriele, 77, longtime Negaunee resident, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, January 27, 2022 at Norlite Nursing Center in Marquette.

Greg was born December 9, 1944 in Ishpeming to Jerry and Viola (Swanberg) DeGabriele and graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1965. He worked as a truck driver for Cleveland Cliffs for over 30 years, retiring in 1999.

Mr. DeGabriele was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Negaunee, and was a longtime usher at the 5:00 PM Mass. Greg was also a former member of the Knights of Columbus and the Negaunee All-Sports Booster Club, and was a former Little League coach. In his spare time, he enjoyed being outdoors, fishing and camping, and enjoying coffee with his friends at the Holiday and the Beef-A-Roo. Greg loved sports and was an avid fan of the Negaunee Miners, Detroit Tigers and Green Bay Packers.

Surviving are his son, Jeffrey (Denise Zdroik) DeGabriele of Ishpeming; three daughters: Angela (Adam) Rose of Negaunee Township, Suzanne (Christopher) Paiva of Novi, MI and Maryanne (William) Muter of Holt, MI; four grandchildren: Malakai Rose, Emily and Chelsea Paiva, and Liam Muter; two brothers, Peter (Ann) DeGabriele of Iowa and Chris (Joni) DeGabriele of California; his sister, Carolyn (Fred) Hume of Marquette; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and his former wife, Linda DeGabriele of Ishpeming. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Monday, February 7th at St. Paul Catholic Church, Negaunee, with Rev. Larry Van Damme officiating. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 9:30 am until the start of Mass at 11:00 am at the church on Monday, and also at a luncheon immediately following services in the St. Paul school gymnasium.
