Negaunee

John Carl ‘Jack’ Renfors, 92, lifelong Negaunee resident, passed away Monday morning, December 6, 2021 at the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans where he resided the past two years.

Jack was born April 7, 1929 at home on Ann Street in Negaunee to John G. and Vieno L. (Marttinen) Renfors and graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1947. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army in September. He completed four deployments during the Vietnam War and was awarded a Bronze Star. He was also an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Air Force. Jack retired from the US Army as a Sergeant First Class in 1975 with over 20 years of service to his country.

Mr. Renfors was a member of VA Romo Post #3165, Negaunee VFW. He was a Ford Mustang enthusiast and owned four of them throughout his life. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking projects, reading and working crossword puzzles, an occasional trip to the casino, and was an avid Detroit Lions fan. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing the Chocolay River at the family camp and also the mouth of the Rock River with his Dad and brother, Richard.

Surviving are his daughter, Linda Henry of Great Falls, Montana; three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Rosalie Renfors of Negaunee; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Ronald and Richard; four sisters: Eleanor, Carol, Elaine and an infant sister Norma Jean.; and two grandsons.

Honoring Jack’s wishes, no public services will be held. Interment will take place In the Negaunee Cemetery.
