Obituary for SHIRLEY ANN HEMMILA (Lund)
Shirley Ann Hemmila, 90, longtime Negaunee Township resident, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, December 6, 2021 at the Eastwood Nursing Center.
Shirley was born April 2, 1931 in Negaunee to Anthony and Helen (Haid) Lund, and graduated from Ishpeming High School. She was a loving and devoted homemaker to her family.
Mrs. Hemmila was a member of Mitchell United Methodist Church, Negaunee. In her spare time, she enjoyed camping with her husband, Arthur, baking pasties and visiting the local casinos. A highlight was visiting Las Vegas for her grandson Pete’s wedding. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who always had a smile on her face and a cheerful laugh.
Surviving are her daughter, Sue (John) Savolainen of Middleburg, FL; her son, Mark Hemmila of Negaunee Township; three grandsons: Pete (Alicia Jenner) Savolainen, Tom and Greg Savolainen and great grandsons, Olin and Sami Savolainen. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur Hemmila; a son, Steven Hemmila; and a brother, Spencer Lund.
The family extends a special thank you to the entire staff at the Eastwood Nursing Center for the excellent care they provided her.
Honoring Shirley’s wishes, no public services will be held. Interment will be in the Negaunee Cemetery.
