Obituary for WILLIAM GILDO MENI

William Gildo ‘Bill’ Meni, 78, of Gwinn, passed away early Tuesday morning, October 26, 2021 at UP Health System – Marquette.

Bill was born November 3, 1942 in Ishpeming to Gildo and Geraldine (Boudreau) Meni, attended Negaunee St. Paul High School and then graduated from Gravaraet High School, Class of 1961. Following graduation, he honorably served in the United States Air Force before attending the police academy in Jackson, Michigan. He worked as a police officer for the City of Marquette as well as Tecumseh, MI prior to serving Forsyth Township from where he retired.

During retirement, he volunteered for the Escondido City Police Department in California while wintering there. Bill also worked for Enright Excavating for the past 13 years.

Bill was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Gwinn and American Legion Post #349, Little Lake. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed his Honda Goldwing and Harley motorcycles. He was also an avid car collector.

Surviving are his daughters, Betty (Tony) Pellegrini of Maryville, TN and Barbara (Doug) Headrick of Duluth, GA; his son, William Paul (Lori) Meni of Escondido, CA; five grandchildren: Brandon, Kristin, Will, Noah and Kasey; brothers, Roy Meni, Sr. of Gwinn and Jim White of Colorado; nephew, Roy Meni, Jr.; his niece, Heather Coleman; and his former wife, Betty (O’Leary) Meni-Warren of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, November 2nd at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Rev. Allen Mott officiating. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 am until the time of Mass at 12:00 noon in the Baraga Room at St. Anthony’s on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Bill’s memory to St. Anthony Parish Endowment Fund.
