Obituary for RUDOLPH ARTHUR JOHNSON

Rudolph Arthur ‘Rudy’ Johnson, 72, of Gwinn, and longtime Negaunee resident, passed away at home Saturday morning, October 2, 2021 in the care of his loving family and UP Home Health and Hospice.

Rudy was born June 21, 1949 in Ishpeming to Leonard R. and Dorothy L. (Johnson) Johnson and graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1967. He was employed as a mechanic for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company, beginning his career at the Mather ‘B’ and eventually working at the Ore Improvement Plan and Tilden Mine before retiring from the Empire Mine with over 28 years of service.

Rudy was a proud member of Michigan National Guard for 20 years. In his free time, he enjoyed motorcycling and being outdoors, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved living on Airport Lake with his wife, Faye, often watching planes fly overhead.

Surviving are his wife, Faye Lynn (Miller) Johnson; his daughters, Tracey (David) Symons of Negaunee Township and Sarah Kerr of Marquette; step-son, Christopher Kerr of New Mexico; two grandchildren: Mackenzie (Gatlin Gunn) Johnson-Duquette and Hunter Johnson-Duquette, three step-grandchildren: John and Piper Symons, and Jake Zeller; three sisters: Lenore Wetton, Judy (Jack) Filizetti and Kelley (Curt) Hall, all of Negaunee; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his first wife, Mary (Libick) Johnson in 2011.

Honoring Rudy’s wishes, no public services will be held. Any memorial contributions may be directed in his memory to UP Home Health and Hospice. Rudy’s memorial page may be viewed at koskeyfuneralhome.com.
