Obituary for KATHRYN ANN "Kathy" OIEN

Kathryn Ann Oien, 69, of Mohawk, and former Gwinn and Marquette resident, passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, September 15, 2021 at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital with her loving family at her side.

Kathy was born August 5, 1952 in Marquette to Glenn and Lucylle ‘Sis’ (Boogren) Oien and graduated from Gwinn High School, Class of 1970. She continued her education earning her Bachelor’s Degree from Michigan State University, as well as her Master’s Degree in Psychology from Northern Michigan University. She ran an in-home daycare for several years, and then worked within her degree field with local organizations, many of those years with Pathways, working in disability services. Kathy was also the director of the group homes within Marquette County and Munising.

Kathy was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Gwinn, where she was known for her singing talents as a vocalist and taught CCD classes. In her spare time, she enjoyed singing, knitting, bird watching, and most importantly spending time with her beloved grandchildren.

Surviving are her loving husband of 24 years, Jim Wuepper of Mohawk; her daughter, Maggy (Craig) Moore of Marquette; two sons, Jason (Dolores) Wuepper of Austin, TX and Rob Cowell of Gwinn; her five grandchildren: Julianna and Shawn Wuepper and Jace, Boden and Maverick Moore; her sisters, Barbara (Ray) Eldridge and Vicki (Dan) Neary; a brother, Louis ‘Butch’ (Janice) Oien; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 22nd at Koskey Funeral Home, Negaunee, with Rev. D. Michael Carriere officiating. Interment will be in the Gwinn Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 9:30 am until the start of services at 11:00 am at the funeral home on Wednesday, and also at a luncheon at the Gwinn VFW from 1:30 PM until 4:00 PM.
