Obituary for WALLACE AUGUST "Wally" ANDERSON

Wallace August ‘Wally’ Anderson, 98, longtime Negaunee resident, passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon September 15, 2021 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility.

Wally was born March 10, 1923 in Ishpeming to August and Georgianna (Farley) Anderson, graduated from Ishpeming High School, Class of 1942 and was a lifelong area resident. He served honorably in the United States Army during World War II, where he served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged in November, 1946, and seven months later married the love of his life, Mary Maino on June 28, 1947. Following his service to his county, Wally began his career at Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co. at numerous properties. He retired from the Tilden Mine in 1983 as a scaleman after 42 years of service. He was a proud member of the Steelworker’s Retiree Club.

Mr. Anderson was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Negaunee, the Knights of Columbus, and was a member of VA Romo Post #3165, Negaunee VFW. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, where he was a member at Wawanowin Country Club. Wally had seven holes in one spread over his numerous years of golfing. He also enjoyed playing cribbage, bowling, pitching horseshoes, and was an avid fan of the all the Detroit sports franchises.

Surviving are his son, Gary (Peggy) Anderson of Ishpeming; his grandson, Michael Anderson of Ishpeming; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Mary Anderson in 2007; a step-brother, Andrew Lusardi; and step-father, Edward Nault.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 24th at St. Paul Catholic Church, Negaunee, with Rev. Larry Van Damme officiating. Interment and military honors will take place in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends for one hour prior to Mass at the church on Friday and also at a luncheon immediately following services in the St. Paul School Gymnasium.
