Obituary

William John ‘Bill’ Rogers, 84, formerly of Water St., Negaunee, went to his eternal home to be with Jesus his Savior early Saturday morning, May 29, 2021 at Teal Lake Senior Living Community.

Bill was born May 5, 1937 in Robbinsdale, Minnesota to William and Louise (Quist) Rogers and graduated from Robbinsdale High School. Following graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1956-58, being stationed in Germany. He was united in marriage to Marie Herrala on April 23, 1960.

Bill was employed with Cleveland Cliffs, beginning his career underground at the Mather ‘B’ Mine in 1965 and eventually retiring in 1999 as a truck driver at the Empire Mine. He was a devout member of Calvary Baptist Church in Negaunee. He was a selfless volunteer for many years with Big Brothers Big Sisters. Bill enjoyed the outdoors, walking, working in the yard, reading, and visiting with the guys over coffee at the Negaunee Senior Center.

Surviving are his loving wife, Marie; brother, Warren (Kathy) McLaughlin of Minnesota; sister, Donna (Gary) Clinard of Mississipi; and many special nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James McLaughlin.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, June 3rd at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Reed officiating. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends at the church for one hour prior to services on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Calvary Baptist Church in Bill’s memory.
