Obituary for DAVID A. STROMQUIST
David A. Stromquist, 86, of Pine St., Negaunee, passed away Thursday evening, February 18, 2021 at UP Health System Marquette.
David was born May 10, 1934 in Butte, Montana to Albin and Hilda (Hedberg) Stromquist. He grew up between Ironwood and Negaunee, MI, graduating from Negaunee High School, Class of 1952. He continued his education of Michigan Technological University, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He married Beverly Talo on August 4, 1956 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Negaunee, and together they raised their three children. Mr. Stromquist worked in the Detroit area as a Mechanical Engineer for General Motors and Detroit Diesel for numerous years, and after retirement he and Beverly relocated back to Negaunee in the late ‘80’s.
Mr. Stromquist was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Negaunee as well as the Negaunee Lion's Club and the Negaunee Elks Lodge.
David enjoyed hunting and fishing on the Yellow Dog Plains and in Big Bay, and played basketball and baseball into his 70’s. He and Beverly cherished their summers at their cabin in Big Bay, always anxious for visits from family and friends. If you were a stranger, he would talk to you about family, sports and the outdoors. He was a friend to all no matter your status, always bringing out and looking for the best in everyone.
Surviving are his two sons, Allan (Nellie) Stromquist of Sammamish, Washington and Kurt (Michelle) Stromquist of Norway; a daughter, Laurie (Bill) Serchak of Milford; seven grandchildren: Elizabeth, Arthur, Katie, Karlie, Kassie, Brandi and Austin; and loving nieces and nephews with whom he was very close.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Beverly in 2019; and a brother, Andre Stromquist.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 18th at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Negaunee, with Rev. Steven Solberg officiating. Interment will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in David’s memory to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Big Bay Presbyterian Church or the Negaunee Lion’s Club.
