Obituary for LAWRENCE JAMES "Jim" NYLANDER

Lawrence James ‘Jim’ Nylander, Jr., 60, of Negaunee, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, February 1, 2021 at home.

Jim was born January 1, 1961 in Ishpeming to Lawrence James and Jeanne (Fernea) Nylander, Sr., graduated from Negaunee High School where he played football for 4 years, Class of 1979, and was a lifelong Negaunee resident.

Jim was a dedicated employee for Negaunee Public Schools, having worked as lead mechanic and bus driver for many years. He also owned and operated the family business, Nylander Auto Parts, and in his younger years worked for the City of Negaunee. He was a member of the Negaunee Eagle’s Club.

An avid outdoorsman and hunter, Jim loved being at the family hunting camp in Trenary. He was a devoted Husband, Father, Son, Brother and Grandfather, and most enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren.

Surviving are his loving wife of 26 years, Gail (LaBombarb) Nylander; mother, Jeanne Nylander; his son, Brandon (Jennifer) Nylander of Negaunee; two daughters: Audrey (Richard Helgren) Hogan and Ashley (Hannah Koski) Nylander, both of Negaunee Township; seven grandchildren: Anthony, Tyler and Kyle Hogan, Noah (Courtney Enright), Madison and Emmersyn Nylander, and Paelynn Nylander; three great-grandchildren: Dannika, Callie and Peyton; and his sister-in-law, Lucinda Nylander and her children, Lucinda and Tina. He was preceded in death by his father; and brother, Jeff Nylander.

In accordance with COVID-19 precautions, private family services will be held. Interment will take place in the Negaunee Cemetery. A graveside service and celebration of life will be held in the spring/summer and will be announced. In lieu of flowers, any memorial considerations may be directed in his memory to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
