Obituary for WILLIAM ARTHUR "Bill" ROMBACK

William Arthur ‘Bill’ Romback, 76, of Negaunee Township, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 23, 2021 at his home.

Bill was born October 19, 1944 in Ishpeming to Leo R. and Laura D. (Anderson) Romback, graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1963, and was a lifelong Negaunee resident. Following graduation, he attended diesel mechanic school in Chicago and worked a few years for Ford Motor Company prior to beginning his career with Cleveland Cliffs. Bill began working at the ore improvement plant, then moved to the Tilden and eventually the Empire Mine where he retired as a welder with over 30 years with CCI. He proudly served as VP and President of USW Local 4950 during his career.

Bill was a member of Eastwood Apostolic Lutheran Church in Negaunee and was a selfless ministry volunteer at Marquette Branch Prison. In his free time he enjoyed motorcycling, hunting and fishing, and spending time with family and friends at his camp on Co. Rd. 510 and the family hunting camp, Leo’s Place II.

Surviving are his son, Ron (Julie) Romback of Oconto Falls; daughter, Ronna (Radke) of Oconto Falls, WI; step-son, J. Michael (Lisa) Denison of Alaska; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; two brothers: Reuven (Marlene) and Vic (Carol) Romback, both of Negaunee Township; two sisters: Lauris (Paul) Wickersham of Negaunee and Linda (Dennis) Hickey of Chocolay Township; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife Jane in 2017; step-daughter, Michele Denison O’Donnell; grandson, Emmett Radke and his son-in-law, Dan Radke.

Public visitation will be held from 12 noon until 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 30th at Eastwood Apostolic Lutheran Church. In accordance with COVID-19 precautions, face coverings and social distancing is encouraged. Private family services will be held prior to entombment at Northland Chapel Gardens. Pallbearers will be Dale Romback, Tyler Hammerseng, Matthew and Alex Radke, Tim and Tanner Romback, Keith and Tyler Romback, Craig Romback and Tom Spencer. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed in his memory to the Eastwood Apostolic Lutheran Church.
