Obituary for DARWIN JOSEPH HUTCHENS

Darwin Joseph Hutchens, 64, longtime Gwinn and Ishpeming resident, passed away peacefully early Christmas morning, December 25, 2020 at Cedar Hill Assisted Living in Bark River while in the care of his loving family and UP Health Systems Hospice.

Darwin was born September 17, 1956 in Marquette to Donald and Lorraine (Larsh) Hutchens and graduated from Gwinn High School, Class of 1974. Following high school, he earnedhis degree in food service from Northern Michigan University and worked for a number of years at Taco Bell in Marquette.

Darwin was a former member at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Gwinn and also attended at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming. In his free time, he enjoyed collecting coins, stamps and Star Wars memorabilia among many other things. He loved decorating for Christmas, Halloween and St. Patrick’s Day.

Surviving are his two sisters, Diane (Dave) Coleman of Louiseville, KY and Priscilla (Dennis) Weber of Wells Township; two brothers, Calvin (Kamie) and Brian Hutchens, both of Gwinn; his sister-in-law, Jane Hutchens; numerous beloved nieces and nephews; and his good friend, Pete.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert Hutchens; and a sister, Lila Tindell.

Darwin’s family would like to especially thank his nieces Janel, Emily (Cris) and Jordyn for their loving care. They would also like to thank the staff at OSF Hospital, Cedar Hill Assisted Living and UP Health Systems Hospice for their compassionate care.

In accordance with COVID-19 precautions, no services will be held at this time. Interment will take place in the family plot in the Gwinn Cemetery.
