Obituary for EDWIN H. VILLENEUVE

Edwin Howard Villeneuve, 74, of Ready St., Ishpeming, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday morning, December 22, 2020 in the care of his loving family and UP Home Health and Hospice.

Edwin was born September 24, 1946 in Munising to Paul A. Villeneuve and Lillian E. (Ylinen) Fosmoe, graduated from Ishpeming High School, Class of 1965 and was a lifelong area resident. Following graduation, he began his career with Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co., working many years as a plant repairman at the Empire Mine before his retirement in 1996 with 31 years of service with the company.

In his spare time, Ed enjoyed metal detecting, fishing and old cars. He was an avid reader, very interested in local history. Ed will be remembered as a prankster, many having fallen victim to his shenanigans!

Ed was a selfless person; he always put the needs of his family first. He will be remembered mostly for his love of family. He cherished his children and grandchildren immensely.

Surviving are his loving wife of over 42 years, Sharon (Mantyla) Villeneuve; two daughters, Amy E. Villeneuve of Columbus, OH and Jennie (fiancé-Tom Skewis) Scott of Negaunee; four grandchildren: Aubree (Brandon) Smith, Maggie and Maddie Beaudry and Parker Scott; three great-grandchildren: Kayden, Kylie and Luca Smith; two brothers, James and John Villeneuve; two sisters, Kay Villeneuve and Carol (Joseph) Bildings; brother-in-law, Gregory (Mary) Mantyla; two sisters-in-law, Nancy (John) O’Neill and Susan (Ron) Reynolds; his late brother-in-law Larry’s wife, Beverly Mantyla; special friend, Jaime Scott; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Paul ‘Puddy’, Jr. and Joseph Villeneuve; and two brothers-in-law, Larry and Alan Mantyla.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jerold Napier, Mark Janofski, NP, Anthony Lackey, PA, UP Home Health and Hospice and Fresenius Dialysis for their compassionate care. A special thank you to bus driver, Michelle Gray, for getting Ed to and from his dialysis appointments, always going above and beyond to take special care of him.

In accordance with COVID-19 precautions, private memorial services will be held. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Ed’s family, 236 Ready St., Ishpeming, MI 49849.
