Rory Arnold Rankinen, 65, of Negaunee Township, passed away at home following a lengthy illness early Thursday morning, July 2, 2020 while in the care of his loving wife.

Rory was born March 13, 1955 in Ishpeming to Stanley and Judith (Keskitalo) Rankinen and graduated from Republic-Michigamme High School, Class of 1973. He married his high school sweetheart, Carol Lehto, on May 10, 1980 and they enjoyed 40 years of marriage together.

Rory was employed with LS&I Railroad for over 30 years prior to working in the construction industry at the end of his career. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling and four-wheeling, and most importantly, spending time with his family and beloved grandchildren.

Surviving are his loving wife, Carol Rankinen; his two sons: Andrew (Taryn Juidici) and Jeffrey (Dana Valella) Rankinen, both of Negaunee; three grandchildren: Randy, Blake and Lydia; his brother, Todd (Patty) Rankinen of Republic; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Randy.

Honoring Rory’s wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
