Obituary for RONALD EINO KIVISTO

Ronald E. Kivisto, 87, of N. Teal Lake Ave., Negaunee, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, March 2, 2020 at the Eastwood Nursing Center with his loving family at his side.

Ron was born November 5, 1932 in Negaunee to Eino and Veino (Laitala) Kivisto, graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1951 and was a lifelong area resident. He worked over 40 years as a miner between the Tracy, Mather B and retiring from the Tilden Mine in 1995. Ronald enjoyed attending the Tracy Mine Reunions annually and reconnecting with his old coworkers.

Mr. Kivisto was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Negaunee. In his spare time, Ron enjoyed being at the family camp on Bass Lake, where he could enjoy time with family and friends. He usually had a project going, but always made time to take the pontoon boat out for a ride. In his younger years, he enjoyed night fishing with his brother-in-law, Burton. Ron was also an avid sports fan, especially Negaunee High School sports and the Green Bay Packers.

Surviving are his loving wife of 61 years, Charlene (Kipling) Kivisto; a son, Greg (Patti) Kivisto of Negaunee Township; a daughter, Linda (Paul) Cornell of Summervile, SC; five grandchildren: Ashley (Mike) Maddock, Brett (Tonya) Nelson, Ashley (Sam Collins) Nelson, Melissa (Nick) Prince and Jared (Cassidy) Cornell; seven great-grandchildren: Conner, Vivianne, Gatlin, Cash, Carmen, Mackenzie and Cole; and a brother-in-law, Clayton Kipling. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Douglas Kivisto; and a brother-in-law, Burton Kipling.

Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Monday, March 9th at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Negaunee, with Rev. Steven Solberg officiating. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:30 am until the time of services at noon at the church on Monday, and also at a luncheon immediately following services in the church fellowship hall. Pallbearers will be Jared and Paul Cornell, Brett Nelson, Dean Kipling, Conner Schneider and Mike Maddock. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Ron’s memory to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Eastwood Nursing Center Activity Fund.
